The Inventor

Joe Puglisi was born in Sydney, 1938 into a prominent fishing family. He went to sea at the age of 13, trawling on the East Coast of Australia. His fishing experience spread into prawning, purseining, pilchards, specialising in tuna fishing on both the East and Southern Coasts of Australia.

While still maintaining fishing vessels in prawn and tuna fishing, he came ashore to develop processing plants for the export of all types of marine products. Leading companies to 3 export awards in '73, '78 and '97; he introduced the industry to tuna farming (or ranching) in Port Lincoln, South Australia. This method is now used extensively in the Australia, the Mediterranean, USA and Mexico.

Later in his career, while still busy with his companies, he developed a passion for recreational fishing with his family, which has continued to consume most of what leisure time he has. His love of new technology and innovation he is famous for in the commercial fishing industry, naturally spilled over into his recreational fishing and he is constantly thinking of new and creative ways to increase the fun of fishing and the size of his catches.

As Joe explains, "after spending years fishing on the wrong side of the boat, and finding it difficult to tell where my berley was going, I was inspired to develop an effective tool to accurately tell where the fish would approach my boat."

"The creation of the Tiger Berley (Chum) Trail Indicator basically came after noticing that on a boat full of anglers, there always seemed to be one guy who caught more fish than the rest of us!"

"The Tiger Berley (Chum) Trail indicatori s a simple and yet ingenious invention that will allow you to make the most of your fishing experience and make it even more fun."

Joe is a firm believer in good fishing management and conservation of fish stocks. His message to all is, "Don't forget your Tiger Berley Trail Indicator. Catch your bag limit much faster and cut out the frustration. Most of all. Enjoy!"
